Mesh to Micron Conversion Chart - ASTM vs TYLER

Internationally, the mesh number is expressed by the number of inner holes per inch, and also by the size of each mesh (mm). The larger the mesh number, the finer the particle size of the material; the smaller the mesh number, the larger the particle size of the material. Sieve size is the mesh size through which particles can pass through the sieve. The mesh number is the number of meshes on the area of 1 square inch (25.4mm × 25.4mm).

The specifications of national standard sieves are different. The commonly used Taylor system takes the number of holes per inch as the screen number, which is called mesh. For example, a 100 mesh screen means that there are 100 openings per inch of screen.

Taylor Standard Sieve System

The graduation of Taylor sieve system is based on the mesh size of 0.074mm, multiplying or dividing by the square root of the main module 2 (2 ^ (1 / 2) = 1.414) (n = 1, 2, 3,...) If we multiply or divide 0.074mm by the nth power of the root of sub module 2 (2 ^ (1 / 4) = 1.1892), we can get a series of mesh sizes with finer division.

A plus or minus sign before the mesh indicates whether the mesh of the mesh can be missed. A negative number indicates that the mesh can be missed, that is, the particle size is smaller than the mesh size; a positive number indicates that the mesh cannot be missed, that is, the particle size is larger than the mesh size. For example, if the particles are - 100 mesh to + 200 mesh, it means that these particles can leak through 100 mesh but not 200 mesh.
